Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS)

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts online exams (Preliminary and Main) once a year to recruit candidates for clerical cadre posts in all participating banks/ organisations. All eligible candidates who wish to join any of the participating banks (mentioned below) need to register for the Common Recruitment Process (CWE Clerks).

A total of 19 banks accept IBPS Clerk exam scores as mentioned below:

IBPS Clerk exam is conducted in online mode in two phases – Preliminary and Main. Candidates who clear IBPS Clerk Preliminary exam are shortlisted to appear for Main exam. Depending on the number of vacancies and business needs of participating organisations candidates who clear IBPS Clerk Main exam are provisionally allotted a clerical cadre post in any of the participating bank.

IBPS Clerk 2018 exam dates are out. The Clerk Preliminary and Main exams are scheduled to be conducted in December and January, respectively.

IBPS Clerk  Eligibility

In order to fulfill IBPS Clerk exam eligibility criteria, candidates need to meet the parameters mentioned below:

Nationality

All candidates should be Indian nationals or subjects of Nepal/ Bhutan or Tibetan Refugees who came over to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or people of Indian origin who have migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

However, it may be noted that all candidates (except Indian citizens) should have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit (as on September 1, 2019)

All candidates should be minimum 20 years and maximum 28 years in age as on September 1, 2019. This means that candidates should have been born not earlier than September 2, 1990 and not later than September 1, 1998.

It may be noted that there is also age relaxation for candidates belonging to reserved categories as mentioned below:

Educational Qualification

All candidates who possess a graduation degree in any stream from a recognised university meet IBPS Clerk exam eligibility criteria. However, it may be noted that candidates should either possess a certificate/ diploma/ degree in computer operations/ language or should have studied computer/ information technology as one of the subjects in the high school/ college/ institute. Also, the official website informs, “Proficiency in the Official Language of the State/UT (candidates should know how to read/ write and speak the Official Language of the State/UT) for which vacancies a candidate wishes to apply is preferable.”

Candidates awaiting their graduation results are also eligible to apply for the exam. However, results of candidates must be declared before October 3, 2019.

Note: The official website informs, “Since recruitment in clerical cadre in Public Sector Banks is done on State/ UT-wise basis, candidates can apply for vacancies in any one State/ UT only.”

IBPS Clerk Preliminary Exam Pattern

IBPS Clerk Preliminary exam is divided into three tests that candidates need to complete in a composite duration of one hour. For further clarification candidates can refer the table below:

Marking scheme: One mark is allotted for each correct answer in the exam. 0.25 marks are deducted for each incorrect answer in the exam.

Note: It is mandatory for candidates to qualify in each of the three tests by securing cutoff marks to be decided by IBPS.

IBPS Clerk Main Exam Pattern

IBPS Clerk Main exam is divided into four tests that candidates need to complete in a duration of 2 hours 40 minutes. Question papers for all the tests except English Language will be set in both Hindi as English languages. For further clarification candidates can refer the table below:
